Black Sand Beach Wedding

This was the most mesmerizing wedding at Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach in Hana. As we drove at sunrise to the beach I listened to their heart melting story of being Twin Flames and being in each others orbit before finally realizing they were madly in love. I knew this was going to be a good one.

Sunrise in Hana

I drove from my house out to Hana in the middle of the night (super early morning) and arrived to their air bnb rental in the dark. If you’ve ever driven the road to Hana you know it’s no easy feat! There are many twists and turns and I didn’t pass one car on that drive out it was a little hair raising.

As I walked up the steps the light was starting to break so I knew we needed to get their getting ready shots fairly fast. I loved the outfits they had chosen. Emilee told me she rarely is dressed without her black boots, so she wanted to incorporate an outift change half way through their session. She had a stunning green sequin dress to change into.

Beach Wedding Waianapanapa Hana

A wedding in Hana is so different from the rest of the island. You feel like you are immersed in nature. Only the sound of the waves and the birds to accompany you. We strolled the balck sand beach for some photos first, before anyone arrived and they exchanged vows. Going around the cliff later to a secluded spot, where Emiliee and Alexander exchanged their surprise ring boxes and rings.

Hana Wedding

I love to photograph weddings in Hana as the landscape is SO different to the rest of the island, there are waterfalls, bamboo forests, and the unique black sand of Waianapanapa Beach.

Beach Wedding Permit

The permit for Waianapanapa Beach is through the state parks and costs $125. Your photographer can obtain the permit for you if they have the correct insurance.
